I am not a journalist, so forgive my style. I will never get a job for The Sun, but may apply to be a reviewer on newsnight.
I got to the Savoy theatre for 1815 on Sunday for the Our House one off show in aid of Help For Heroes. Its a small venue and I was high up in the stalls, but with a good view of the small stage.
The stage is probably 50ft by 25ft with a screen at the rear and a 7 piece band to the rear of the stage.
Not much on the stage, just a door and a number of white and black cubes.
The show starts nearly on time---it seems a packed house and there are cheers.
Its a very different start to the original Our House musical.
It starts with Suggs (dad) and Kath(mum) dancing to los palmas 7 and the announcement of Kath being pregnant with His or Clint Eastwoods baby (sure Suggsy said Clint Eastman).
The show moves swiftly to Our House. Good version, on a very sparse stage.
Suggs does Simple Equation
Then its a great version of My Girl..
The show moves on. Baggy Trousers works well, especially the angelic crowd bit. Not sure about Reeceys voice in this but its covered by the cast well.
On to Embarrassment as Good joe is jailed and this is repeated as bad joe gets involved in the alarm business/crime.
Driving in my car is fun...considering the parse stage, the cubes I mentioned at the beginning are used as the car.
Its back to return of the los palmas 7 at the ball, then shut up.
Highlight of act 1 is tomorrows just another day, the sun and the rain.
Then its break time and i have my £3.50 ice cream..(THREE POUND FIFTY!!!)
Act 2
Suggsy shouts Night boat to Cairo, its a bit of a subdued version though.
Wings of a dove is done well with about 20 cast on stage...great dancing.
Suggs sings One better day, truly brilliant especially when Joe duets. Lovely song(hope they bring it back in December).
Then its Rise and Fall by the chorus.
House of fun/rise and fall/my girl....'she's lovely to me but not as lovely as Julie on reception who's only nineteen' its superb.
Alistair McGowan is a brilliant Pressman, as is the girl who played Julie.
The highlight of the show for me, NW5-Miria Parvin who plays Sarah has a lovely voice, and as much as I love the Madness original, this song was made for a slower female voice...absolutely beautiful.
It must be love next by Joe and Sarah..
Then the sun and the rain which is a good copy of the original, but the market is missing.
The cubes make this up.
Primrose Hill/our house is the final bit.
The cubes are mums coffin for the bad joe bit.
Then its the finale.
All on stage dancing, taking a bow.
Suggs is on last.
He does IT MUST BE LOVE and Lee Thompson joins him on stage doing sax.
There are speeches by Suggs re help for heroes, then the director Matthew Warchus does a speech thanking every one.
He mentions the ensemble only had 10 days rehearsal and only 4 hours on stage practising.
Tim Firth also comes on stage, as does Michael Jobson and Julia Gay (original joe and sarah)
It finishes with a final Our house dance and its all over.
Superb show considering. Not highly polished, but made up for in talent and enthusiasm.
The audience loved it with clapping and a standing ovation.
Touch wood it will re ignite someone to bring the show back properly.
Great night was had by all and money raised for Help for heroes.
