Was in my local Tesco on Saturday afternoon, and as I was going in, I heard the end of Forever Young, the thing is it was not Madness' version of the song, it was someone else, I have no idea who, it almost sounded like something that could have been recorded for Tesco. The thing is, I have heard the original version of My Girl more than once in the past 2 or 3 years in the same store, so I have no idea why they would not use the original version of Forever Young. Has anyone else heard this other version of the song in any other supermarket?

I recall this being mentioned when it was first released. I think Matalan or somewhere similar had a "soundalike" version - I think it may even have been the one available on the karaoke-version site.

Havn't heard any other version of forever young , however i hear our house, and it must be love , reguley at work and sadley it's not Madness. My company changed the instore music about a couple of years ago and all the songs played now not by the origanal artists.

Well, I just thought it was a bit odd for them to be using a re-recorded version, considering they have previously had Madness' own version of My Girl playing. Still, I suppose using another recording will still bring in a few quid a year in publishing royalties at the very least

Yeah, checked this out yesterday and found a site that sells all this crap, and the reason being is that the store dont have to pay out any royalties to the original artists. I searched for madness stuff but the search engine was painful LOL

They pay no royalties? Surely something is paid to the music publisher each time the track is played, some kind of public preformance fee in the same way radio stations and music venues do for each song played?

Publishing and performing payments are seperate issues I think. I guess it's just cheaper to have a bunch of cover versions playing than the real thing.
