A long time fan has posted up on Facebook that he hates the new album, concurs with the NME review (2 out 10) and feels that the production of Langer/Winstanley has been sorely missed.
What do people think?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion I guess - I have to confess that unlike Folgate the album is no longer on constant rotation on my iPod - still play it regularly but it's not grabbed me in the same way Folgate did (that album was about the only thing I played for months after it's release) - there are some great songs on there for sure but I guess the biggest key is how many of those songs will still be gracing the set list for years to come (as NW5 and Forever Young have)? I'd suggest How Can I Tell You and possibly Never Knew Your Name are the only tracks that have the potential to be there for some time IMHO.

I don't really see any problem at all, and I think that it's possibly been a refreshing change (whether good or bad) for the band and it's fans in hiring different producers. People will either like it or not, but that was the same with every album and single the band ever released. Inevitably some people will also change their minds in time. Case in point, 'The Madness'. It seemed that just about everyone disliked that album, but over the last 5 years or so, it has gained new appraisals from different corners and isn't quite the 'bomb' that some originally thought. The new album's good in my opinion, maybe not as immediate as some other Madness releases, but still a good album that will be regularly spun aboot inside that c.d. machine thing! At the risk of an Internet mugging I'd have how can I tell you, misery and so alive at a gig well before forever young, etc etc.
NW5 is awesome, I stood at the g mex and there was a collective wtf to most of LONF.
I love it, isn't that what this band is all about? chameleon?

In my honest opinion I think that like most bands out there people look too easy for comparisons to previous work.
I like the new album but there are one or two songs that dont do it for me.
There is one or two on norton folgate that grate on me too in the same way.
As far as Langer and Winstanley go should it be about the music and the quality of the songs rather than who is producing it?

I was glad they went with different producers. I wanted to see what others would bring to the mix. They have worked with L&W for a longtime now so have surely used all tricks they have. If the new album does have any failings, I don't think it's down to the production, which on the whole, is pretty strong.

There's nothing wrong with the first 10 tracks and "Black And Blue". "Death of a Rude Boy" and "Powder Blue" aren't one of my favorites. The second version of "My Girl 2" is not as good as the first track. Ironically, however the second version is produced by Langer And Winstanley. Nevertheless they did a great job in the 80's, but times are changing. You can't compare this album with "One Step Beyond" and "Absolutely".

Oui, Oui...is one of those rare albums that I play all the way through, I think it works well as a collection of melodic pop songs.
I'd agree that Liberty is a stronger album overall but I do skip one or two of the tracks from time to time which so far hasn't been the case with the new album.
