I just read in the Buzzjack forum that Oui Oui has reached Gold status in the UK on 22 March. This means that the album has sold at least 100,000 copies in the past 5 months. Someone in that forum said that the album had an "alright chart run considering it's had no scuccesful singles" and it's true- if his numbers are accurate, the album spent 14 (non-consecutives) weeks in the Top 100, quite impressive for an "heritage act" (they did much better than the other "great" 80s act still standing, Pet Shop Boys, whose last album spent a month in the charts). Sidenote: Folgate also went Gold in 2009. Congratulations to the band.

Really good to hear that. As for "no successful singles," I believe that we now have to have a different expectation of what their purpose is. They may not reach the top of the charts anymore, but they are really marketing tools to promote sales of the album (IMO).
I'm sure a lot of album sales were generated by TV and radio airplay of the singles, with a lot of people who still want a physical release opting to buy the whole album on CD instead of just a download.

you are spot on regarding the singles. the only way i see them getting a big hit at number 1 is if they did a duet with say olly murs and redo it must be love or something new.
Its good to see that the album has done really well.

As a fan since 1980...I have always bought every physical release Zi could of everthing. I dont see the point in a download of a song I already own (on the album). I want something shiney for my collection. Sorry chaps
