I've got the German CD and DVD sometime before Christmas. To cut a long story short, the DVD quality is pretty crappy, far below what I was hoping for and probably a little worse than my old bootleg copy.
If this is a genuinely official release -which I am very doubtful of - it's definately sub-standard; a bit like the Madstock 92 DVD, it may look alright on standard resolution TVs but HD shows up all of it's short-comings.
I'd avoid the DVD if you already have a decent bootleg. I don't recall any problems with the sound on the CD version, although it's nothing to get too excited about.

So not remastered then? it's from analouge tv recordings of course which is one reason why madstock 92 is equally hard / costly to improve.

This is just from an inferior multi-generation source. Obviously not from any archival master which is why it screams bootleg Chris posted a message saying he was unaware of it's release too. BTW I checked it on my old standard TV and DVD, it still looks crap and plays in widescreen ratio by default so the picture is stretched. Explains why I couldn't get the right ratio through HDMI. Avoid.

I have a video I got about 10 or 11 years ago, from a place in Dublin that was a recording of a German TV broadcast, from 1981. It's been ages since I watched it, but I think it was a gig done in Hamburg, possibly at a venue called Market Hall, or Markthalle, something like that. Does the DVD/CD mention the venue or date? I think the one I have was recorded at the end of October or November 1981.

Yes that's the one - November 29 1981

The video I got was a bootleg, even though it was pretty good quality, and as far as I remember the one I have has the tv station logo in one corner, though I can't remember if it is for the full length or just the beginning and end of it.
And November 29 1981 does ring a bell, I think thats more than likely the same one I have. I have no idea if it was ever given an official release in Germany or not though.

The logo would be WDR. On this release it's just been clumsily overdubbed with their own logo.
Rockpalast is a very well known German show - Bob Marley, The Beat and Elvis Costello also appeared (and circulate as bootlegs). A couple of the shows have popped up on Sky Arts in pristine quality but not the Madness one.
It hasn't been officially issued - I thought this was the first official release but it obviously isn't.

It's a pity it was never given an official release. As for those programmes turning up on Sky Arts, I think I noticed something listed today for some Rockpalast, but I have no idea what it was, and only now that you mention it, I wish I had checked what it was
