Sweetest Girl is a victim of it's dated production for me. I got fed up of the extended album version which is just too damn long, but listening to the 7" edit for the first time in ages and I actually don't mind it. It probably shouldn't have been the A side of a single, but then the charts were full of pap in 1985 that was worse than this.
Sorry is just a crap song - no catchy chorus, no memorable melody, dull lyrics - none of the things that create classic Madness.

Aaaaggghhh...PROSPECTS...its wierd how we are all so different. For me, its the best record, Madness have ever recorded. I absolutely love it....the intro...the words....the tune.... Prospects is brilliant.
Hate iron shirt...glad its off the set list. Behind the eight ball....yeh...agree...never liked that.

I know what you mean Jimbo - some of my favourites are ones that never seem to be mentioned by anyone else. I can only ever play 'Going to the Top' at full volume, and it is definitely in my all-time Top 3. Glad to know that others like 'Africa' as well - that's my fave on TLONF. But you can keep Prospects my friend. And Samantha isn't that much better.

I think its unfair to say they have recorded or released anything bad. Sweetest Girl, La Luna and Elysium are probably my least favourite. One of my favourites is Rise & Fall

As I recall even the notes in The Business box set about Behind The 8 ball were quite dismissive - basically it was a track knocked up quickly for the B side. I love Prospects too, and Elysium and La Luna. Just goes to show how tastes can differ. I don't mind Going To The Top although I do recall quite a bit of criticism of it when it first came out.

Was not keen on Shame N Scandal - I also think NW5 is a bit weak - it is a song that just wants to get to the chorus - the verses are a bit plodding

Driving in my Car is the one song that I can happily skip (prefer Riding on my Bike !)

I'll Compete - an absolutely horrendous song - it was a song about how tiresome the music biz is and it sounded like it - dreadful start to Mad Not Mad.
