Worst record - "Sorry". No question. For me this was a huge disappointment I have said this before, and will say it again: they should definately appologise (pun totally intended ) for unleashing such an unholy turd upon the world!

I think a lot of people considered Sweetest Girl as the worst single until Sorry was released. They would both be sonsidered the worst 2 singles put out by quite a lot of people, though I know there are people who think they are good songs, and there is nothing wrong with people having differing opinions

Sorry got Madness to 23 in the singles chart which was great to see but that was mostly due the tour when people could buy different versions of it and it would count as upto 3 sales in the singles charts. They did the same with NW5 the next year and that hit 24. Unfortunately the official charts company won't let bands do this anymore unfortunately as if they'd have been allowed to do it for Dust Devil on the 2008 tour & Forever Young on the following years tour those singles would have chart a lot higher as would My Girl 2 if they'd had a similar thing. Anyway enough from me

Regarding the thing about up to 3 different versions being able to count towards the charts, that has been around since the late 70's, and a lot of Madness singles (though not all) were released on 3 different vinyl formats. Personally, I think NW5 deserved to get much higher in the charts than Sorry, which I still maintain is the weakest single they have ever released, and if I remember correctly, there were only 3 of the band on the actual recording.

Sweetest Girl - No question.
Saying that, I hope Driving In My Car never makes an outing.

i love take it or leave it. For me personally I could quite easily/happily had TIOLI as a single from Absolutely

Dust Devil. I don't like the song and I hate the vidco. It looks as if they wanted to reach a young demographic by asking a pair of cool young celebrities to appear in it(which didn't work as it only reached number 64) . It lacks the sense of humor that made all of Madness videos so great (or maybe it's just that I don't get it) . And the song is soulless, which is something that can't be said about most Madness songs. On The Town is a close second. It's just sooo dull as it goes on like forever. And for some reason I don't like Rhoda Dakar's vocals on it.

Sorry to only join in the conversation six months late... I also thought that Sweetest Girl was terrible until I heard someone playing the full 12 inch version on the radio a few weeks back and I thought it sounded amazing! My long-term pet hates are: 'Prospects', 'Behind the Eight Ball' and probably 'Vietnam'. However, they are still better than anything that 95% of other bands have come up with! That 'Prospects' though - it just never ends!
